Endeavour launches July 15, 2009

It’s just so cool! It makes us cool!

Space shuttle Endeavour blasted off today on the sixth launch attempt. Forgotten are all those delays because of weather and a hydrogen leak .

This mission will deliver a “front porch” for the station’s $1 billion Japanese Kibo complex. The orbiter is scheduled to dock at the station on Friday, and return to Earth on July 31.

The STS-127 crew members are Commander Mark Polansky, Pilot Doug Hurley and Mission Specialists Dave Wolf, Christopher Cassidy, Tom Marshburn, Tim Kopra and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Julie Payette. Kopra will join the space station crew and replace Japanese astronaut Koichi Wakata. Wakata will return to Earth on Endeavour to conclude a three-month stay at the station.
